Rape and sexual violence does not DIRECTLY cause an Eating Disorder

I am not defending rape. Rape is wrong and if you read anything else here in my blog you know I am a victim of rape and sexual harassment. You also know that when I finally got up the guts to report what had occurred, I was told I had “fabricated” the story.

That said, check out this link:

While it is statistically true that rape can be a catalyst (note wording), what REALLY causes an ED? Restrictive dieting. (If it’s not that, it can be caused by another form of severe malnutrition, which can happen inadvertently.)

What causes dieting? Rape can set a person off to go on a restrictive diet. However, the diet itself is what causes the body to get into certain patterns. Which will make the ED hard to stop.

The mental health system, and other forms of severe (am I using this yucky word too much?) oppression will sustain a person in a state of “illness.” The oppression could include sexual oppression. Of course, society often overlooks the oppression of the Mental System. Maybe the elephant in the room is just too big to see.

  1. Not all rape victims respond the same way. Heard of one woman who wolfed down high calorie foods after a rape; on some level she thought gaining 100 pounds might keep the predators away.

I’m not speaking from personal experience, btw. But people react to pain differently.

    1. Ending up with an ED doesn’t necessarily mean you end up stick thin, though many do. Many do not see a change in weight while still others gain immense amounts, or, fluctuate between extremes. From what I recall many of us were able to hide it surprisingly well.

    1. The entire concept that some people are inferior has just got to go, which is the entire concept behind the System. I suspect what happened to the feminists is that they all became therapists. Fatal error.

    2. Google “rape therapy” if you aren’t easily triggered. Often guys who date rape rationalize their evil behavior by claiming it helps the victim, she says no when she means yes, and she will enjoy it and thank him later. Sounds a lot like the garbage you’ll find on professional websites dedicated to psychiatry.. It’s way too easy to justify doing wrong when we are determined to do it anyhow. 🙁

I’m not minimizing or making light of rape by any means. For me, sexual harassment over 2 years screwed me up pretty badly (ages 15-17.) Till 20 I felt asexual because guys turned me off.

  2. Thank you for writing about ED and rape. I was raped, and though I was too afraid to tell anyone, I developed an eating disorder because of being raped. I enjoy your blog very much. Keep it coming!💕
